Which wireless data network should I choose?

SmartTrade Mobile works on all the main wireless networks (Telstra, Vodafone, Optus and 3 in Australia, and Telecom and Vodafone in NZ).

The choice of network depends on your location and the available coverage, which is improving all the time. You should talk to a data reseller (we can put you in contact with one).

What size data plan?

The data requirement depends on how frequently you sync between the office and the PDA. Experience shows that about 40 Mbytes per month is sufficient for a PDA that syncs several times a day.

If you use a laptop in the field, you will probably use more data, but a 100 Mbyte plan should be adequate.

You may want to ensure that users don’t use wirelessly equipped laptops or PDAs to surf the internet, as this will increase the volume of data traffic, although with the small size of files sent to PDAs, it is more of a problem for laptops.

What will it cost?

Plan prices vary, but have dropped significantly over the last year.  Remember that you need a plan for each PDA or laptop wireless card that you want to connect wirelessly.

Data plans typically work on a Mbyte data allowance per month, plus a cost per Mbyte for exceeding the maximum. Depending on the the cost per unit, it can prove to be expensive if you exceed the monthly data allowance. Most users prefer to take plans that comfortably cover the expected usage.
